After his promotion in 1998 he worked as a researcher and lecturer at various Dutch universities. After that he went into journalism and worked as deputy chief of FEM Business. Between 2003 and 2005, he worked at De Nederlandsche Bank. |

He studied Econometrics at the University of Amsterdam, has worked on a four-sectors model for the Dutch economy (under supervision of Wim Driehuis), received his doctorate in Economics from the same university and acquired his PhD at Duke University in the US.
